Dear Members / Parents / Volunteers and past members – Here are some updates about the Club:
“Have a go Evening” 25th August. Seniors and Juniors and families came together to take part in fun evening of running, jumping and throwing events. The Juniors hotly contested the 75m and 100m sprint events and in the longer distances of 400m and 800m there were a complete mixture of ages and abilities competing, including over 60 year olds still enjoying themselves over the 2 laps.
In the shot putt, coach Leighton Ryan gave a short but essential master class for those who had never putt the shot before and Juniors like Hollie Evans also showed how to do it. The long jump which is always popular with the Juniors was very competitive, and seniors Danni Evans and Angela Jones also showed how itโs done, jumping really well.
A big thankyou to all the parents who volunteered by bringing cakes and helping as officials. Cakes teas and drinks were of course a highlight, and the evening rounded off with highly competitive 4 by 100m relays, teams consisting of 2 adults and 2 juniors. Those Mums and Dads who took part were wonderfully competitive and it was all about the taking part. The Club are hoping to hold a series of similar โ Have a go eveningsโ next year. A very big thankyou to Karen Huggins, Laura Rees and Daf Lewis who organised the evening and to everyone who supported the event.
Track Refurbishment – Carmarthenshire County Council Assets Dept have carried out a walk over assessment of the track and facilities and have just had electrical contractors in to survey the electrics and lighting at the track. We will be pushing for the results of the electrical inspection in order to get some improvement in lighting over the winter months.
The Club have commisioned Labosport to conduct a full Condition Survey of the track surface, this is being carried out on 9th September. We will receive a full report which will be crucial in pushing CCC to make budgetary provison and will support the tendering process. CCC refused to pay for this Condition Survey, so the Committee agreed the Club should fund the work to push for progress.
Gwent League Cross Country – If you want to take part in any of this seasons races you must register your intention by 26th September with Karen Huggins (for seniors) and Jonathan Williams (for Juniors). This will enable us to generate your race number which entitles you to compete in any of the races. As you know we always try to put up a tent as a Club meeting point, however this year I need some-one to volunteer to take charge of the inflatable tent. Please let me know if you feel able to help.
Welsh Athletics & Welsh Schools Athletics Association Joint Outdoor Combined Events 19th September Carmarthen
Good luck to all our athletes who are competing in this event. This is a qualification event for the Pentathlon International to be held in Glasgow in November. If you have time please pop along to Caramarthen and give them support.
