The traditional bank holiday rain held off on the morning of May 4th for the annual Carmarthen Mayor’s Fun Run – Ras Y Maer, and several club members took part. The 5k race involves three loops around the town with lots of twists and turns, starting outside Carmarthen bus station and ending in Guildhall Square, with hills and bollards to navigate along the route. This was followed by children’s races and a mini fun run.
The atmosphere was great, and there was good support around the town centre.
This was the second event in the club’s Senior Championships for 2026-27. The first Llanelli Athletics Club member back was Jeremy Rowlands in 38th position overall at 22:00. Jeremy’s excellent performance was recognised when he won an award for coming second in the male 60+ category.
Next through the finish line was 13-year-old Maksymilian Jania, the youngest club member in this race. Maks completed the course in 22:31 and also won an award for his amazing time, coming second in the Year 9 school category.
Keeping it in the family, Sylwia Lichon, Maks’ mum, was next to finish at 27:28. Next was Donna Fernandez at 28:01, and Rachel Evans at 29:40. Chrissie Mosey was next at 30:11 on her first race as a member of Llanelli Athletics Club. By coincidence, Chrissie was running in bib number 180 and finished 180th.
Sylwia’s other sons, Nataniel, Gracjen, and Tymon Jania, also all took part in the junior races along with Violet Thompson and Hannah James.
The sun may have stayed out for most of the Early May Bank Holiday, but unfortunately, by the time the Monday evening club run took place, the weather had other ideas! Some of the medal winners managed to gather to take a picture with their medals before running, but everyone came back soaked.
