For the second year in a row, 16 years old Darcy Coslett has uniquely been rewriting records and putting Llanelli well and truly on the map in Wales, the UK and on the world stage. Her hard work, commitment and success have been a source of inspiration to junior and senior athletes, despite only being 16, she has already created a legacy that will inspire for years to come.
Llanelli AAC nominated Darcy for the Brin Isaac Junior Athlete of the Year, which she won in 2024 and again in 2025, and has achieved her successes under the wing of Llanelli AAC Coach Chris Franklin who has carefully guided and encouraged her from a young age. Her achievements in 2025 are impressive:
In the UK Senior Indoor Championships in February Darcy who was only 15 at the time, set a new all-time British Under 17 record for the 400m, breaking the old National record which had stood for 16 years.
In the Welsh Under 20 Indoor Championships Darcy won gold and set a new championship record for 400 metres. She competed in the 300 metres in the English and Welsh Under 17 Championships and took gold at both these separate events.
For the indoor 300 metres and 400 metres Darcy is now ranked in the Under 18’s World’s top 10.
Darcy’s outdoor performances produced a gold in the Under 20 Welsh Championship in the 400m again setting a new championship record. She also claimed silver in the 200 metres. In June she went on to take Welsh Under 17 Championship gold at 300m and a silver at 200m. These performances earned her selection for the Senior Welsh team for the prestigious Loughborough International.
In the Welsh Schools Championship’s she won gold and set a new championship record for 300m. This ensured not only a place in Wales’s squad for the Schools International but she was also selected as female Captain for the squad.
Darcy’s outdoor season performances saw her also set a new 100 metre senior’s club record, this record having stood for 42 years. Darcy remains an integral member of Llanelli AAC, representing the club with pride, and with support from Welsh Athletics her training programme has intensified over the past 6 months. She is now coached predominantly in Cardiff by former European 400m hurdle champion, Rhys Williams, in a training group including Welsh Commonwealth athlete Hannah Brier.
Darcy’s short term aim is to represent the Great British Junior team, and has been selected to attended the UK Futures Relay Camp in Loughborough. Another goal is to be selected once again for the UK Senior Indoor Championships, the competition where she broke the U17 all-time British indoor 400m record last year, coming second in her heat to no other than British and World Indoor Champion, Amber Anning. Longer term Darcy’s sights are set on the U18 European Championships in Reiti, Italy.
