Safeguarding & Welfare

Llanelli Amateur Athletic Club takes its duty of care in safeguarding and welfare of all of our athletes and volunteers very seriously. Welfare covers a range of issues such as safeguarding and protecting children and adults, anti-bullying, equity, poor practice in coaching and disciplinary and grievances matters. It encompasses policies and procedures to set out minimum standards of expectations, such as codes of conduct, procedures to follow for dealing with child protection concerns, other welfare issues or complaints, and to ensure that our club meets statutory responsibilities to safeguard and protect children & adults. Llanelli AAC abide by  UKA and Welsh Athletics safeguarding policies and procedures.

Llanelli Athletic Club involvement in insport Wales –

insport is a new Disability Sport Wales (DSW) project which aims to support the sport, physical activity, and leisure sectors delivering inclusively for disabled and non- disabled people. It is promoted by Welsh Athletics.

Llanelli AAC has always been an inclusive club. This is stated in our Constitution  and on our Membership Application form.

“Membership of the Club shall be open to anyone interested in the sport on application regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs. However, limitation of membership according to available facilities is allowable on a non – discriminatory basis”

To ensure we continue to deliver ever improving standards, and implement the advice of expert bodies such as DSW, Llanelli AAC is now taking part in the “insport Club” strand of the project.

We have already achieved the insport Club Ribbon standard.  Rachel Evans (one of the club Welfare officers and Committee member) is the club’s insport Club Lead Officer.

We will be able to use the DSW Toolkit which is intended to support the development of inclusive thinking, planning, development and delivery by the club so that ultimately we deliver across the spectrum to disabled and non-disabled people. This toolkit is about good practice across the board.

We are now proceeding to work towards the other insport Club Bronze, Silver and Gold Standards. At each standard the insport Club logo is awarded to us for use in our marketing and communications, and they will be promoted through the DSW website as well. People seeing the logo on our Club site will understand the inclusivity the Club offers.
