Club Information
Be Part of Llanelli’s Athletics Family
Llanelli Athletics Club was formed in 1978 and is affiliated with Welsh Athletics.
Members are welcome from age 9 through to seniors and veterans.
Llanelli AC provides training & support covering a range of disciplines, including track and field, road races, and cross country. Some members also regularly compete in other running events such as trail, fell, triathlons & ultra-distances.
We cater for runners of all abilities from complete beginners to established internationals.
Juniors
Main Junior training sessions (9 years and above) are on Tuesday evenings at Pemberton Athletic track next to Parc y Scarlets. Prospective new joiners should attend sessions on a trial basis (currently Tuesday at 5:30 using the ‘Run, Jump, Throw’ programme) to see if they enjoy it before joining the club, then they may be invited to attend further sessions on Thursdays.
Seniors
For adults, we currently have two regular club sessions:
Monday 6pm – ‘Recovery/Social Run’ which is often also integrated with a ‘Couch to 5k’ programme led by a Welsh Athletics qualified Leader in Running Fitness.
This is usually from North Dock – meet at ‘Dragon 24’ business centre car park, but please check for updates as the location does sometimes change for variety.
The emphasis here is on social running and recovery from weekend races or long training runs. Depending on who attends different paced groups often form, but periodically the whole group will re-form and no-one gets left behind.
Thursday 6pm – Speed training / intervals
Usually held at the track, but in summer months we may use other venues such as Festival Fields (again, keep an eye out for changes of venue).
Varied structured speed / interval sessions focussing on technique and developing strength. Note that ‘speed’ doesn’t mean you have to be a fast runner, and although it is likely to improve your times it’s as much about pushing yourself in a controlled and structured way beyond your ‘normal’ pace to allow the body to make adaptations and improvements in form that will make whatever your normal ‘cruising’ pace is more comfortable and efficient, as well as increasing your ‘top end’ speed.
The session will always accommodate runners of any age / pace / level of experience / target goals.
We are a supportive, friendly and family orientated team.
Follow our activities and join in on our chats.
We welcome all new members of the club, and new followers online. Our team makes every effort to welcome new members and help them to integrate into the club and sport.
Emphasis is placed on enjoyment and participation.
