


Mud, Sweat, and Glory: Llanelli Athletes Shine at Inter-Regional Cross Country Saturday, November 29th – Llanelli’s finest braved a challenging and muddy course at Dolerw Park in Newtown for the annual Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships, putting in spirited performances against the cream of Welsh distance running.
Representing the West Wales region, athletes from Llanelli Amateur Athletics Club (Llanelli AAC) delivered strong individual results, battling the undulating terrain and the high-calibre competition from North, East, and South Wales.Owain Gravell, competing in a West Wales vest for the first time in the U20 Race held his own in a tightly packed field. He ran a tactical race that saw him finish strongly.
Owain said “The course and competition was as tough as expected”
In the junior ranks, young Ellis Davies showed immense promise in the U15’s race. Despite a fast start from the main pack, Davies maintained his composure, navigating the slippery bends and steep inclines to finish strong. His determination on the final stretch was a testament to his consistent training.
Ellis’s Dad commented “He did well considering he was one of the youngest in his age group. A good learning race”
Meanwhile, the efforts of senior athlete Sylwia Lichon in the Senior Women’s race demonstrated her determined experience, finishing strongly to cross the line.
Sylwia said “It was extremely muddy and freezing”
Llanelli AAC club spokesperson said: “We are immensely proud of Owain, Ellis, and Sylwia. The Welsh Inter-Regional Championships is always a fantastic but fierce competition, and their commitment and effort truly reflect the dedication of all our athletes at Llanelli AAC. They were great ambassadors for both the club and the West Wales region.”
The Llanelli athletes will now turn their attention to the upcoming Gwent League Cross Country Competition in Blaise Castle, Bristol on Saturday 6th December 25.
