The 2025–26 West Glamorgan Cross Country League got off to a flying start on Sunday as hundreds of runners descended on Pembrey Country Park for the first race of the season. The torrential rain created a challenging course that tested competitors from start to finish. The route took runners through a mix of forest trails, open dunes, and grassy stretches — a true test of strength and endurance to kick off the campaign.

Llanelli were represented with a small but tenacious team of four athletes.

In the senior men’s race, it was Owain Gravell who set the early pace, finishing first of all Llanelli athletes in his first ever cross-country outing aged just 17. The chasing pack, including strong showings from other clubs, ensured a competitive start to the league season. Anthony Heald finished next, with John Marson also finishing well.

The women’s event saw a dominant performance from Rachel Evans, who looked comfortable throughout the course. Behind her, runners battled for the remaining places in an exciting finish.

All our athletes embraced the spirit of cross country running. Clubs from across South and West Wales — including Swansea Harriers, Neath Harriers, and Port Talbot Harriers — were well represented, creating a vibrant and friendly atmosphere around the picturesque course.

Overall, great effort and determination by all, with the next race scheduled in the West Glamorgan League to take place at Aberavon Beach on Sunday 16th November, where Llanelli runners will be looking to build on their early-season performances.
