The Cross Country season kicked off in earnest on Saturday at Margam Park. Llanelli Amateur Athletic Club had junior and senior athletes competing on a hilly course on what was a lovely dry and warm day. In the Under 11 Girls race Liliana Evans had a fantastic run as did Lilly Drzewicz in her first cross country. Violet Thompson ran a strong race in the Under 13 Girls event and Elin Edwards ran well in her first race since coming back from injury. In the boys Under 11 race Carwyn Jones stormed round the 1.5km course and in the Under 15 Boys Llanelli had a strong team led in by Dylan Hopkins, and Ellis Davies. Moving up into this age category was Maksymilian Jania who with Oliver Phillips ran well over the 3.1Km course.
Seniors Mathew Jones and Anthony Heald competed the very testing 8.8Km men’s race, both commenting how hard they found the course. Meanwhile in the Senior women’s race, which also included Masters men who are over 65, Jessica Williams led the women’s team home followed by Helen Williams and Sylwia Lichon running her first ever cross country. Paul Osborne also gamely completed this 6.2Km course. The next race in the John Collins Cross Country series is in Cardiff Llandaff on 8th November.
